Physical examination
The physical examination is extremely important because it may reveal the physical factors which caused ED. For instance, an inappropriate penis respond on touch may suggest some nervous system disorder. Smaller testicles, decreased facial hair and enlarged breasts suggest problem with hormone system and low testosterone level-hypogonadism. The doctor may also detect a smaller blood flow through arteries (as a result of atherosclerosis) by listening to the diminished arterial pulses in the legs or listening to the sounds of blood flowing through the narrowed arteries with a stethoscope. The unusual penis anatomy may also be a cause of erectile dysfunction. For instance, bending of the penis during a sexual intercourse may be caused by Peyronie’s disease.
