Adjusting medications
Many drugs for treating such diseases as: hypertension, depression, high blood lipids may have a bad influence on an ability to achieve an erection. Medications used for high blood pressure are the best example for that. There is a great variety of drugs for hypertension treatment: beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, diuretics (drugs which increase urine volume), angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors), and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). All the mentioned drugs may be used alone or in a combination with other drugs for hypertension control. Every anti-hypertension drug has its specific activity and contributes specifically in erectile dysfunction. For instance, two drugs: Inderal (a beta blocker) and hydrochlorothiazide (a diuretic) cause erectile dysfunction but calcium channel blockers and ACE inhibitors do not have a bad influence on an ability to achieve an erection. There are also medications like: angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) such as losartan (Cozaar) and valsartan (Diovan), which do not cause ED but increase sexual desire, decrease erectile dysfunction and generally have a positive influence on sexual life.
